Project FINSIGHT

Project FINSIGHT is a collaborative citizen science initiative inviting divers and recreational anglers along the North Carolina coast to share their shark encounters through photos, videos, and detailed observations. Each submission helps build a clearer picture of shark presence, behavior, and movement patterns in our waters, information that is often difficult for researchers to capture on their own. By combining the passion and eyes of the local outdoor community with scientific analysis, Project FINSIGHT aims to create a living database that supports conservation, research, and awareness of North Carolina’s vital shark populations.

By participating, you’ll become a key contributor to understanding the health and diversity of sharks in this region. Whether it is a brief sighting or a close up encounter, all information shared helps strengthen our ability to conserve these ecologically important animals. Together, we can ensure that North Carolina’s shark species and the marine ecosystems they support continue to thrive for generations to come.

You can submit the following Google Form for each encounter you have along the North Carolina coast. Your consistent reporting helps us track shark activity more accurately and strengthens our overall understanding of what’s being seen along our coastline.

If you are unable to upload photos or videos to the Google Form, or if you have additional information you believe is important, please email us at finsight@ncsharks.org.
